Trip to Seattle

I was recently in Seattle where I caught these young lovers.... and then they caught me!!! I converted the first image to B and W.

  1. Really like the image in black and white personally. Nice, Mike! Thomas taught me something recently I wasn't aware of. If you convert to black and white, do it in Photoshop under their wholesale adjustment and don't merely desaturate as you lose what he said was about 70% of the photographic information with the latter.

  2. I saw on Ken's version of PS CS 3 I think they have solved the problem. On my version go too: image- adjustment- channel mixer then check mark the monochrome box. what's nice is you can adjust individual colors. 2 things to keep in mind though... keep track of the original total number value your changes need to add close to the same also think in terms of bw for instance adding blue lightens blue where as adding red or orange darkens blues. I guess a good rule of thumb is whatever you add lightens itself.

  3. Thanks to both of you!! I am using a system of converting to B and W designed by photographer / teacher Larry Vogel. He uses a layer system which includes, as one of the layers, a B and W adjustment layer. When that layer is utilized, you adjust the colors individually which effects the B and W image. I hope I explained that adequately..

  4. Besides being a cool image, what struck me is that in the b & w take, the girl appears to be giving the photographer the finger.

  5. I don't exactly see that, however, they were probably both giving me the finger as I walked away!!
