Crow On Lamp. I don't know if this image is "blog worthy," but each time I see it a chuckle arises. Hopefully, you'll be amused. Ponte Vineyard Inn on Rancho California Road in Wine Country

  1. Michael ......I like the potential in this shot.... A couple of suggestions.... Straighten pole and crop in quite a bit..... Great capture with clouds in the background. I hope this is constructive!

  2. I agree, it will be more fun with cropped tighter and slightly straightened. I like crow shots.

  3. Thanks for the suggestions, gentlemen. This is one of those shots I "sorta" like, but needed input from fresh eyes. I'd already done one large crop, and then another smaller crop, but at that point felt I was losing my way, so didn't crop further.

As for straightening the light pole, I was eyeng the electric cord for guidance. I was concerned that if I straightened the pole, the cord and lamp would end up appearing to defy gravity.

Thanks again for the comments, they're appreciated. The Blog seems to have drifted away from members critiquing the posted images. I used to like that part of this website.

  4. Michael... I put the image in PS and straightened the pole. The angle of the cord didn't change that much. I also cropped it and it works better. Give it a try!!

I also wish more people would comment on the photos ( as well as post more). It is a good way to learn. Unfortunately, only a few people are looking at this and fewer are posting. Our loss!!

  5. I think that this shot would make an amazing sepia. Much more powerful as a monochrome. With a slight crop all three dimensions of sky. The tonal gradation in the clouds would really deliver. Adjust your highlights all the way in both directions and find the place that sings for you.
