MARRIAGE This picture received the 1st place award for the coming Escondido Arts Partnership Contemporary Realism show. The juror was Harry Bliss, former head to the Palomar college Art Dept. This is a plus for digital photography for I was competing against sculpture, painting, and such..

  1. A Big Congrats, Louis!! Do tell us about the photo… location of the shot, your treatment, etc. It is unusual for a photo to win against paintings.

    1. THANKS, SANOGUY, BUT I AM AFRAID THAT THE CONGRATS GO TO ADOBE. I TOOK THE PIC SOMEWHERE IN THE ESCONDIDO ART CENTER, THEN I RAN IT THROUGH INNUMERABLE FILTERS, APPLIED TEXT TO IT, DID SEVERAL VARIATIONS, THEN FINAL MINOR ADJUSTMENTS. INITIALLY I WAS TAKEN BY THE AMBIANCE OF THE STAIRS: THEY WERE SCARY AND LOOKED LIKE THE ENTRANCE TO A BORDELLO i KNEW AS A TEENAGER (IRENE'S IN KLAMATH FALLS OREGON). MY IDEA WAS TO MELLOW-OUT THIS SCENE, ITS ASSOCIATIONS, AND THE FEELINGS IT EVOKED IN ME. I DID ENDED UP FEELING PRETTY GOOD ABOUT IT.

I didn't realize you painted, Robert. You should post some of your pieces on this site for our enjoyment.

  5. Fantastic. It is a great example of how digital has eroded the perceived boundaries between photography and "art".
